| Dinner tonight |
[Sep. 25th, 2009|06:42 pm] |
Apologies for lack of photograph; my guests ate these before I remembered to take one:
Recipe:
4 pcs chicken breasts, boneless preferred
Topping Sauce: 1 medium-sized onion, diced 1 large tomato, diced 3-5 cloves garlic, diced 1 tsp olive oil Salt, to taste Balsamic vinegar, to taste Chili powder, to taste Oregano, to taste
Grated cheese
Combine all topping sauce ingredients in frying pan and saute on medium heat for about 10 minutes. Place chicken on baking pan, cover chicken with topping sauce and bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Cover with grated cheese with 5-10 minutes remaining (to melt cheese).
Tonight, this recipe got served with garlic mashed potatoes and stir-fried broccoli.
My brother and his wife enjoyed this, as did Julie and I. |

| Scrabble tournament-related question |
[Aug. 17th, 2009|12:37 pm] |
If somebody was to host a local-to-you charity NASPA-rated Scrabble tournament where 100% of the money taken in went to the charity, if instead of paying an entry fee, you'd collect pledged donations (with a minimum requirement of, say, $25 to enter), and all of the prizes were of donated merchandise and none of the prizes were cash, would you play?

It was great to see everybody that I don't get to see all of the time.
Karaoke Tuesday night was an absolute blast.
I missed Julie terribly the entire week.
On the plus side -- I didn't lose a game the entire weekend. |

| Endgame position from Tuesday |
[Apr. 10th, 2009|01:04 pm] |
John Robertson and I went on community television on Wednesday morning to promote our upcoming tournaments; we played a game Tuesday night to see if we could get any good game positions to demonstrate on-air. The endgame was good enough to be our demonstration position. Can you find the best play? The board is behind the cut. ( Read more... ) |

| Just a little something I've been working on... |
[Apr. 1st, 2009|06:45 pm] |
I don't really expect this story to go anywhere, but I'm going to post the opening of a story, here:
--
It's 3:17 PM on Saturday, April 4, 2009; Officer Christian is standing at the base of the apartment complex. A bald, thin, medium-height middle-aged man, about 40 years old, has just been taken away, pronounced dead at the scene, after what appears to be a suicide. One grief-stricken witness, returning from a trip downtown, told the officer that she heard an extended primal scream, followed by the body hitting the ground about 15 seconds later. Lying near the chalk outline of the recently-removed body is a mechanical pencil and a stack of business cards. One card catches the officer's eye. Officer Christian picks it up, wondering if its contents might just give a clue as to what has just transpired on this Saturday afternoon. The card reads:
CEEILST
0123456789ABCDE0
"CEEILST?" Officer Christian wonders. "And what is with the numbers and letters along the bottom?"

| I hate daylight savings time. |
[Mar. 8th, 2009|04:18 pm] |
It didn't occur to me in the slightest that people would show up to a restaurant to eat an hour later the day after the time change.
I hope we can make up the delay over the staggered dinner break. |

| Shattering the worldview of more than one of us... |

...I can't figure out why, but grep won't work on OpenOffice files (despite working on Word and Excel files).
I've had to batch-convert my spreadsheets and word processing documents so that I can grep them properly. Quite annoying. |

| Jumping onto this meme |
[Feb. 20th, 2009|03:03 am] |
The first five (5) people to respond to this post between here and Facebook will get something made by me.
This offer does have some restrictions and limitations so please read carefully:
- You may like what I make, but then again, you may not.... - What I create will be made just for you (maybe even inspired by you). - It'll be done sometime this year (2009). - You have no clue what it's going to be. It will be something made in the real world (not something cyber). It may be a poem. I may draw or paint something. I may cobble it together from found treasures. I might bake you something. It may be ephemeral, surreal, or even hyper-real. Who knows? It's a mystery yet to be revealed...
And in return, all you need to do is post this text into a note of your own and make 5 things for 5 others. |
